I haven't seen the full documentary, but the performance came across my LooshTube feed not long ago. I was genuinely entranced the whole way through (particularly by the drumming) and definitely left with the impression that they were carrying out some sort of ritual in that space, with the intention of summoning something. And I don't mean in that in a demonic/evil way, just in the sense that they were clearly channeling something beyond themselves. I only really know Dark Side of the Moon, but everything about the album, from the name down, feels occulted in nature.
And thanks for the encouragement on the reviews. They always rewards me with the most subscription cancellations. 😂 but one’s gotta do what one’s gotta do.
Love these review posts ❤️. Such an interesting synchronicity too as I have just finished a post that talks at the end about the Pink Floyd album cover for Animals and I think my last line was "getting us all to believe the same thing? Pigs might fly" ... And then a couple of hours later I read your post ha ha!
My creative flow is overtaking my weekly posting at the moment so there is a queue! I think this post will be in one week unless something HAS to jump the queue. It's called LEGO haiku ha ha
You have experienced more in half a lifetime than most of us do in several. I’m surprised you didn’t get into Floyd though. Their popularity would have been in your prime.
I have this mindset about vocal music. I have a hard time to understand the words and do not want to entertain disfunctional lyrics. In the 50s and 60s i thought that most somgs were disfunctional. My hearing garbles song lyrics.
Summer wine by Nancy Sinatra has a line "an angel's kiss in spring" until recently i thought the lyric was "an angel's kissing spree". I thougt that wss cool although the rest of the song was disfunctional. Now that i read the lryic, like my garbled version better.
All generes of music have their place! I find that it’s impossible to answer to what your favourite song is because music fits a state of mind and a time and a place- your surroundings change, but more importantly you change, how can you choose a favourite that would catch all of you?
I like your version of misheard lyrics better too! When I didn’t speak English very well, I thought the song “Message in a Bottle” was actually saying “massaging my bottom” in the chorus. I would even do a little air butt massaging dance move when I sang along to it. I did it for years. Until a friend caught me and corrected me. But if you hear the song and if you think they’re saying “massaging my bottom,” you’ll have a hard time hearing anything else.
"Gilmore and his wife have doubled down in calling his former band maid anti-semitic." If you meant "band mate", then no mystery involved. If you meant it as shown, please give me some additional info, as I'd love to know how "band maid" fits in.
Back in the Lockdown era, even though I am at best so-so about metal music, I spent a lot of time finding and downoading about 2TB worth of mostly Japanese metal groups for a friend on the other coast who is a metalhead and Japan-phile, and the group I fell in love with, both as a group and individually (plenty of fan-oriented clips on YT, so I got to know each of them somewhat) is named BAND MAID...here's a couple samples for if/when you have time & interest. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfORoQIqB3E
😂 Hahahaha! I fixed it. Sometimes, I'm multitasking! That's why I have some eagle-eyed readers like you. My kids are about to sing the Star Spangled Banner at the White Sox game with their choir. I'll check the links when I return. Thanks!
One of my great joys in life is seeing ancient structures used in modern times as they were when first built. When I saw an opera at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus many years ago it was one of the highlights of my life. I do not even remember what I saw. The evening atmosphere in Athens was unforgettable.
The Romans used to pipe rose-scented water to spritz the large crowds of guests on hot days.
All we get are those weird summertime sprayer things at the hardware store.
Excellent write-up, Tonika, and wow… that gong photo! 😮
Thanks, SF! 🤗

Also, more of these please.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the occult. There’s definitely some Floyd that feels straight up ritual, you’re 💯 there.
If you have 6 mins, this is one that I really think you’ll enjoy: https://youtu.be/jViTte8VAzU?si=LY_qy8Rkm4nHdkTD

There was a lot going on in that 6 and a bit minutes…
Right?!?

Sounds like the Lattice of Coincidence! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRJ5cCP0ZPE
Ha ha yes, this is absolutely a thing!! Once you observe it you are aware of it every single day and it is fascinating!
Ha! What a great synchronicity! Gonna go find your post. Thanks, April!
I just realized you haven’t posted it yet. 🥴

Will look out for it!
Geeze i have missed so much in life. I love reading your reviews and insights. I always thought Pink Floyd was a dudes handle. Thanks.

I mostly listened to instrumentals like Telstar.

Thanks for the write-up.
I'm with you on ancient structures. Something unsettling and anachronistic and admirable all at once.
