This was such a fun instalment! And there were so many witty incisions in April’s piece that pointed at deeper unserious meanings — i.e., “His night-stick hung limply at his side now.” — so fun.
Also:
“April has always wanted to be a serious writer who writes more than just 17 syllables. Unfortunately since her diagnosis with Conspiracy Spectrum Disorder in the last few years she is unable to be serious about anything." — hilarious!
I do love how you just 'get' me Michael. This must be why we enjoy each others writing so much. Glad you popped over here to have a look. I tried to express my deeper feelings about the world at large and the 'institutions' that run it for us without saying anything specific, as well as moving the story along, all in 650 words. It was a fun challenge to craft each sentence and combine the blatant with the subtle. A good writing challenge. I hope you explore doing an Exquisite Corpse on your stack perhaps??? Count me in if you do ha ha
I think you did a great job subtly expressing your deeper feelings about institutional control while also crafting a story. I was seriously impressed!
Yeah my pain series is almost done and so after that I’m looking forward to playing around with a few fun things like this. If I do one, you're definitely on the list. :)
I only got to the second line before snorting my coffee! This had me on the edge of my seat (as directed by my Pilates instructor in her recent stand-up comedy Sexercise). By the last line, I was letting out a long whistle (or would have, if I could whistle) in admiration of that tidy little package of a problem dropped in my lap.
OMG!!! How can I follow this! Calling all of my intrepid Substackers who can boldly go where three great Substackers have gone before. Anyone want to Sub in? Pretty please?
If you've got a falling action that you just can't get out of your mind, send it my way. This is phenomenal and I will be subbing April pronto!
Thank you Kathleen. I LOVE this conversation. I am sure you are both going to have a lot of fun talking through some plot ideas and nonsense ha ha. I'd say the main rule is to have fun. Enjoy!
I second, April!! Just some goofy ol’ fun is what the witchy docs ordered! A collab between you two is gonna have some sparks flying and I am, oh, so looking forward to it!
Yes, I would though I don't want to mess with where your mind's already wandered. How do we proceed? Send me what you have I suppose I'll add to it? I want to play but not sure I know the rules to the game. :-)
Let's do both! send along when you're ready and maybe we can chat over the weekend? I could do tomorrow but a much narrower window for me. Monday also good - but we'd be cutting it close. :-) Let me know what works for you.
😂 I am now nervous about what kind of sexercise-driven creative juice will be dripping off your fingers and wonder if we’re gonna get kicked off Substack for it.
And I was keeping the next participant a secret, but since you outed yourself, in case I’m sensing some doubt you wanna do the next installment, DM me and we can tap into a sub if no one here picks you up on your offer.
I’m so so happy you subscribed to April! 💓 I love cross pollination!
I did not know what 'a a' WAP was. Now I am informed of 'this this' situation, although not from Ms Greenidge's article because the acronym was never defined.
When the music video came out in America, Ben Shapiro had a bit of a nervous breakdown and did a whole episode on it but kept referring to it as a “wet ass p-word”. Still makes me laugh to this day. I mean, I’m no wallflower, but now that I have kids, I’m a bit less lewd and can understand how some folks are more conservative.
Ha ha, glad someone appreciates my bizarre sense of humour Tereza! You've totally got this - just think of the most ridiculous options that you can and take it in a whole new direction. Here are some questions I'd sure like to know! Has Charlotte framed the prius driver in her statement or is the nurse guilty and if so why? Will we see Officer Middle again, I want to know if he was ever in the same room as his wife and whether he knows what to do with his night stick? And finally, is Sexercise available in the UK? It might stop the tears running down my leg when I laugh too hard!
Things 'may' have been implied. 'Suggestions' may have been placed in minds..... but on the whole I think we did well on keeping the 'actual' thoughts out of the gutter ha ha

I'm game Tereza! Agree, this is so much fun. And ditto on April's stack.

Oooh wanna collab? Now I woke up with some plot twists snaking through my brain and I'd love to intertwine them with you, fav stacker!

Yay yay yay! I have 2-3 paragraphs in mind that I'll send to you later today. Or we can zoom & noodle on it. That sounds like even more fun.

I think you will be fine.

I would personally like to hear more about Officer Middle's backstory, hopefully he gets a chance to put that night stick to good use
I agree Issac. Officer Middle needs his own series, he's a complicated man!
Dear lord, this Substack’s gonna have to start placing NSFW warnings…

Thanks so much for letting me play! Can't wait to see what happens next! Such a fun idea
So so happy you and your bizarre sense of humor joined, April! I really do think this would work well with haikus as well!
I'd love to do this with Haiku. I have also suggested it to another writer on Substack. It was a lot of fun.
Count me in on any haiku shenanigans, this wombat has been known to provocatively dabble with restricted syllables before
Fab Issac. I wonder how we could do it with haiku? One each? A small series telling the story? It would be a lot of fun. Feel free to DM with ideas
I can vouch for that!
