Haha great. Amnesiac innocence. Loved that. Did you do the voiceover?

The words are written by Caitlin Johnstone but the voiceover is my voice, yeah. Thanks for checking it out!

Ah okay I see. The text is brilliant and you have a really nice storytelling voice. Thank you.

Perfect choice of music, too.

I showed this to a friend and he ahd the same reaction as I did:

"She'd be a worthy replacement for Sir David Attenborough when his time has come."

Hahahaha! What a great compliment! I’ve always been super self conscious because of my accent but now, I’m sort of like, meh, just makes me feel more international. Thanks, Fabian. That feels great.

What a visual! Also “pervertogenarians”?!? Stealing!!

I can’t open this link. Email it me? (Only if it doesn’t burden you!)

A most scathing "port-rate!" (must be first rate port in the veins of these pervertogenarians!)--well rendered visually an' vocally with a lovely slice of much deserved venom cake well-served on a porcelain plate! Reminds me of the fine politi-cull satires of the GREAT ahrtist George Cruikshank -- to wit: blob:null/6623f6ca-be1e-4104-9dbc-2233b055943b

Evil takes on the banal daily double of an overflowin' chamber pot onta a stinky carpet with lackadaisical maids doin' the clean up job ta hid the "evidence."

Those are good! Reminds me of theatre school when they would send us home with an illustration like that and we would have to write a soliloquy based on that character. Ever have to do that, Daisy? And I wasn’t even on the actor’s track and they still made me perform some awfully stuffy political nonsense.

Expand full comment

They are! Nope, we never got that exercise (usin' an illustration) BUT we often had to observe folks in the real world (as colorful as ya liked--puhlenty of that on them subways...), an' then perform a kinda monologue "as" them--makin' up a name, walk, backstory, all that. I totally dig the idear of using illustrations but only if they've got broad-not-stuffy comic potential! I'm fond've old old satirical drawin's tho--cuz they are like character observations that could easily become 3d!

This got sent to my junk mail for some reason, so I missed it til now. I'm so glad I found it!!

You rocked this, Tonika. As soon as I heard the music (nostalgic, elegiac almost, and so simple -- to match the simplicity of Mitch himself in that moment), I knew you had nailed it.

And then your voice -- empathetic, smooth, to cover the sharp teeth of the words -- PERFECT!

Damn, I love your work. Chicago theatre is missing your genius. xox

I appreciate that, Mary, feels good to know it resonates. Caitlin does know how to write ‘em! I figured my friends would cheer it on because it was about Mitch, up until the point it became about Biden too. 😂 ah, tribes!!

Brilliant (as many others have pointed out in comments) and powerful. Wow. Packs a punch! Living up to your handle, it's viscerally felt. Great collaboration. Thank you Tonika! (& Caitlin.)

Good Lord, so many funny and yet true and sad quotables in this. Would love to see the written text. Marvelous job by all. Theater, grand theater, but fully exposed like the naked emperor. All sold a big lie, their souls gone, taken by evil. They may find what a spiritual deconstruct feels like, better to be thrown into a river of molten lava than to have a spiritual deconstruct. This I have on the highest authority.

Fair enough. I like editing to music. Gives it a sense rhythm and pace. But I’ll keep it in mind about volume.

Bloody excellent. Beautifully delivered. 'The whole place smells like night terrors and urine.' Do you ever wonder how these 'helpers', those who seem to be so compassionate towards McConnell in this video come to be assistants to these psychopaths? This worries me more than a lot of stuff. The concept that the next door mum and the uncle to the kid down the street can be on their payroll. But then those who baited the non-vaccinated would have been happily watching the cattle trucks thunder through the night on their way to Auschwitz. Great work Tonika, very succinct. And excellent writing of course from Ms. Johnstone.

Great observation! Handlers? For the record, I’m not ageist or something I might get called around my parts. I do think older people carry a certain sense of wisdom and lived experience, there are reasons tribes value their elders’ input. It’s just that these particular elders have been and continue to be driven by psychopathy. And here are the crop of them new ones, holding the old ones by the arm as they twaddle off stage.

Powerful and scathing. Mitch McConnel demonstrates a classic illustration of the freeze stress response I talk about a lot in action (or perhaps that should be in inaction); basically he has Parkinson's like symptoms.

Oh, interesting. Stress induced? I find it apropos that the trigger was the question of him running again...

Yes, stress induced, triggered. Like a deer in the headlights. Note he froze once before while at a podium, now he fears it will happen again, and so is trapped in a vicious circle... like an oppossum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpGwt_baExk

Ha! Don’t know how I missed this! Funny I see it now when last night I was woken up by some noise in my grape vines outside my window. I go out and catch a mama opossum and her baby helping themselves to my grapes. When I had them in the beam of my flashlight, they were frozen and didn’t move at all. I thought they were terrified!

Ok this is perfect. I loved Caitlin’s rant, one of her best in a while. Didn’t imagine it as a potential VA collab creation, but then you continue to surprise! Must be all that Scorpio/8th House energy in your chart 😁

She’s got some good ones! I have a few saved to visualize if I ever get caught up with everything else. 8th house energy, eh? Gonna have to tell me what that means. And all Ive ever heard about scorpios is that we’re jealous and obsessive, but that really doesn’t fit me at all. Or is it that western horoscopes are just particularly reductionist? I can certainly obsess over a project... in some circles we just call that ‘passionate’. 😂

And yes, I will try and send the reminder. Thanks for the warm words, Pamela! ❤️

This is brilliant, Tonika. Caitlin is always scathingly on point but never hits so unerringly as when read and illustrated by you. That turtle-without-a-shell McConnell, being trundled off to go 'outside.' Would you like to go see the butterflies, Mr. McConnell? We have warmonger bingo at 2.
